Audi confirms winning combination for Le Mans

27 May 2009

The Audi team has confirmed that it will be running its victorious Sebring line-up at Le Mans in just over a fortnight's time. The German manufacturer, running three cars, will see its challenge spearheaded by the winning combination of Dindo Capello, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish.

All set for the legendary 24-hour race on the weekend of 13-14 June, the turbo diesel R15 will be attempting victory after the trio won the 12 hours of Sebring earlier in the year. Team-mates to the Italian, Dane and Scotsman will be the all-German line-up of the team's second car: behind the wheel will be Lucas Luhr, Mike Rackenfeller and Marco Werner. The team's third machine will be piloted by another German in Timo Bernhard with Frenchmen Romain Dumas and Alexandre Prémat alongside.

"The 12-hour race at Sebring was a successful dress rehearsal for us," said Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Audi's Head of Motorsport, "that's why we didn't make any changes to the driver teams that competed at Sebring; the squad for the third car automatically resulted from this decision. I'm convinced that we've filled the cockpits of all three cars at Le Mans with outstanding racers - also thanks to the two drivers (Bernhard and Dumas) Porsche is providing us with."
