ORECA wins race as Aston clinches title

With ORECA on pole for the last race of the season, the might of three Lola Aston Martins may have been strong although the closest ended up almost 52 seconds down on the winning entry of Olivier Panis and Nicolas Lapierre.

"We had a big gap," the latter explained. "The situation was under control. Then we had to change the louvre but it was only right that Sebah had to do the same thing."

Further down the field, the Lola Judd car won the LMP2 class by coming home eighth overall as the Nigel Mansell LMP1 entry ran into trouble to finish 28th and 27 laps down after qualifying fifth.

"Our pace wasn't perfect today but that wasn't the key to our success," added championship-win Stefan Mücke, whose Aston came home third. "We again had a consistent and reliable car and that's what wins you championships."
